Some cool Homecoming Dress images:
Turtle Derby, 1958 Greek Week
Image by Digital Collections at the University of Maryland
The 1958 Turtle Derby was held during Greek Week in the spring semester. Turtles and sponsors convened on the lawn in front of Fraternity Row to see whose turtle proved to be the quickest. Some students even dressed as turtles themselves.

Nanotchka’s contribution to my charity quilt. Her 15 year old grand niece was diagnosed with cancer several years ago. Nanotchka made a quilt for her niece using blue fabrics (her niece’s favorite color). She also recently made that same niece a
blue purple homecoming dress. The square is made from some of the leftover fabric from the dress original quilt. Such a touching story.
BTW, I plan to include a diagram on the label of the quilt of all the names (flckr names) and places that the blocks originated.
I was mistaken about Nanotchka’s original story. The fabric is from the original quilt and not the dress. Sorry about the mix-up.

Spent the afternoon shopping in Royal Oak with my cousin Lauren who showed us around to some cool shops to find a homecoming dress for Kayleigh. We decided, at the end of the evening, to take a picture together for our respective 365s!
