Q&A: Whats the difference between a homecoming dress and a prom dress?

Question by Jeter is my hubbie: Whats the difference between a homecoming dress and a prom dress?
I have never been to a homecoming and Im not too sure if the dress I bought would fit more for homecoming.
I personally never went to a homecoming dance because Im not the “get my nails done, hair done, and scream girly screams in excitement type.” But basically my dress isnt really silk, i cant explain the fabric and its just a pretty simple dress. I love it actually but Im not sure if its appropriate for prom. (and yes its a floor length dress)

Prom dress comes off easier.

(ooh, it was toooo easy) (the joke, not the dress)

(had to work at the dress) (not that much)

(I’ll stop now)

Prom dresses tend to be fancier.

But really, what you feel comfortable in and happy with is most important.

    Homecoming is semi-formal
    Prom is formal

  4. Toy Parties says:

There shouldn’t be a difference as these are both usually formal affairs

A prom dress is all puffy, and frilly, and just more fun… a homecomming dress is more of a dress… and prom dress in a sense… is kinda like a wedding dress I guess… Ya know what I mean? Not a wedding dress with the veil and long flowing thing after you, but more fun I guess…. sorry… I know what I mean but its hard to explain.

Normally the homecoming dress is a little less formal than prom

A Prom dress is more of a formal type gown, traditionally floor length. Homecoming dresses are more of a fun party type dress, they are generally not as formal(or costly)as prom dresses. They can be shorter styles too.

Are you one of the girls vying to be homecoming queen? Then there is not much difference. Otherwise, prom dresses tend to go with a certain style each year differently. You can keep up with what’s new in the magazines for that.
Homecoming dresses are stylish, but not so “out there” as prom dresses tend to be.
A lot of girls try to be more business-like with a touch of flash in homecoming, while at prom is more glam.

homecoming usually short trendy dresses, prom usually long poofy or straight, you can get them in any color, but keep it simple for hc and fancy for prom. have fun!!!
