Asking your girlfriend is a good idea, but there are also a couple good rules of thumb to go by. 1: what do the people at your school usually wear? Is it a tux, a suit, casual? Start with that. Do the others usually use vests?

Usually at my school the guys just wear black suits with a white shirt, and a tie or vest that matches their dates’ dress, and probably a matching boutineer (although odds are that your girlfriend is getting the boutineer, right?).

You definitely can go for the black suit, black shirt and silver tie combination. It’s standard and conventional.

Here are a few additional suggestions if you don’t want to do the standard:

1.) A vest – you can either go for a solid silver or a black with silver details.

2.) A black tie with silver details (instead of a solid silver tie)

3.) Don’t forget the accessories! Cuff links, your watch, socks(!)

Have fun at your homecoming! :)

You should also as your girlfriend for her suggestions too. She’ll know what will go best with her dress.
